The Blood of Dawnwalker Is Finally Here, And It Might Be the Vampire RPG We've Been Waiting For

The Blood of Dawnwalker is out now, and honestly it's one of those games that flew a bit under the radar until Rebel Wolves dropped the right material at the right time. The studio is made up of people who came from The Witcher 3, and you can feel that just from reading the premise: 14th-century Europe, the Black Death spreading death everywhere, and in the middle of all that chaos vampires seize the moment of weakness to grab the power they always wanted. Other creatures of the night follow their lead. Legends turn into reality, basically.
You play as Coen, a guy who isn't quite human and isn't quite a vampire either — a Dawnwalker, as the game's own title gives away. He's stuck between the two worlds, carrying strengths and weaknesses from both sides, and tries to save his family from a vampire lord while deciding just how much of his own humanity he's willing to give up to do it. The question the marketing keeps circling back to is whether his soul is worth the lives of the people he loves, and I think that's genuinely the backbone of the story here, not just a pretty tagline for a trailer.
The big gameplay hook is the day-and-night cycle. During the day you're more human, with one way of playing; at night the vampire abilities kick in and completely change what's available to you, which mysteries you can dig into, even how you go about solving a quest. Rebel Wolves promises a good amount of freedom in your choices — you can play through trying to save everyone, or embrace revenge against the one who turned you and tear through anyone standing in the way. Some people will want to take it slow and prepare, others will just want to charge in without thinking twice.
The setting is Vale Sangora, a fictional region in the Carpathians, and from what's been shown in gameplay so far it looks like a genuinely dense open world, not just big for the sake of being big.
It launched on September 3, 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, published by Bandai Namco. There's a standard edition, an Eclipse Edition with a digital compendium, soundtrack, and a prequel comic, and for collectors there's also a Collector's Edition with a steelbook, a physical map, and even a Coen figurine. Haven't played it myself yet to give a verdict, but the pedigree of the people behind The Witcher 3 counts for a lot here.
