Game Pass Is Mourning: Eight Games Say Goodbye at the End of July

If you haven't tried some of these titles yet, you'd better hurry. Microsoft has confirmed the next wave of departures from Xbox Game Pass, and this time the list stings a little more than usual. The name that jumps out immediately is Celeste. The platformer that won over critics and players alike with its razor-sharp difficulty and unforgettable soundtrack heads back to the "buy it yourself" shelf starting July 31st. If you've kept putting off that mountain climb, this is your final warning. Also on its way out is Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord, the medieval epic that blends kingdom-building strategy with chaotic first-person combat, which has been on the service since 2023. It's joined by Crusader Kings III, one of Paradox's great modern classics, which arrived on Game Pass as a day-one PC release back in 2020 before landing on consoles. Losing both at once is a genuine gut punch for anyone who loves strategy games with historical depth. Tactical shooter fans will also feel the loss of Sniper Elite: Resistance, which joined the catalog right at launch in January 2025. Back to the Dawn, meanwhile, has a quirky backstory: it was already flagged for removal in early July, then pulled off the list by Microsoft, and now it's returning to say goodbye for real this time. Rounding out the list are Rain World, the atmospheric and brutal survival game that still splits opinion between "work of art" and "unbearably hard," Whiskerwood, still in early access, and My Friendly Neighborhood, the psychological horror starring smiling puppets that is anything but friendly. The good news is that all these games get at least a 20% discount before they leave, with Crusader Kings III and Whiskerwood seeing even bigger cuts thanks to the Xbox Summer Sale. So if any of these titles caught you off guard, you've got until July 31st to decide whether to buy in or just make the most of your remaining subscription days to finish the campaign. Meanwhile, those sticking with Game Pass have plenty to smile about too, with Halo: Campaign Evolved and Mistfall Hunter on the way later this month. The wheel never stops turning.
