Nintendo is reportedly adding Challenges to NES, SNES, and Game Boy games on Switch and Switch 2

Something new is coming to the classic titles on Nintendo Switch Online. The NES, SNES, and Game Boy apps received significant version updates over the past few days: the NES app jumped to version 9.0.0, the SNES app to 6.0.0, and the Game Boy app to 4.0.0. These are large enough version bumps to raise eyebrows, but anyone who opened the apps expecting something new found nothing different. At least for now.
The explanation comes from dataminer LuigiBlood, who has a track record of uncovering hidden information buried in Nintendo's code. According to him, the apps already contain the files for a feature called Challenges, which has not been officially activated yet. He described them as being "akin to NES Remix, but not the Remix kind," suggesting game-specific objectives within the classic titles without the creative mashup format that defined that game. LuigiBlood also claimed to already know which games will be getting the feature, but chose to keep that under wraps for now.
Nintendo has made no official announcement. But if this feature is confirmed, it would be one more reason to keep a Nintendo Switch Online subscription active, especially for fans of retro gaming.
