Sony Raises PlayStation Plus Prices Again

So, Sony just announced yet another PlayStation Plus price increase, and as you'd expect, the internet is not happy about it. Starting May 20, new subscribers will pay $10.99 per month (up from $9.99) and $27.99 for three months (up from $24.99). Current subscribers are safe for now, but the moment their plan lapses or changes, the new price kicks in. Turkey and India are the exception — everyone there pays the new rate immediately. Sony's explanation? "Ongoing market conditions," pointing to memory chip shortages driven by the AI boom. And that's exactly where people started pushing back, because that excuse felt way too vague. Social media was full of jokes, with one person asking: "Are the 'market conditions' in the room with us?" What makes it even more suspicious is the timing. The increase lands exactly six months before GTA 6 launches — a game that's going to pull massive numbers of new players onto PS5, all of whom will need PS Plus to play online. Coincidence? Maybe. Strategy? Almost certainly. And this isn't an isolated move. Just a few months ago, Sony already raised the price of the PS5 itself by up to $150, also blaming "global pressures." To make things worse, Microsoft went the opposite direction and cut the price of Xbox Game Pass, which made Sony's decision look even harder to defend. At the end of the day, Sony is raising prices across the board, closing studios, and reaching for the same vague corporate language every single time. Fans are noticing the pattern — and patience is clearly running thin.
